Corrections Policy

Last updated: January 1, 2025

Our Commitment to Accuracy

TamilHour is committed to accurate, fair, and thorough journalism. Despite our best efforts, errors can occasionally occur. When they do, we correct them quickly, transparently, and prominently. This policy explains how we handle corrections, clarifications, and updates to our published content.

1. Types of Corrections

Corrections

A correction is issued when a factual error has been published — incorrect names, dates, statistics, quotes, or other verifiable facts. The corrected article will include a clearly labeled correction notice at the top of the page explaining what was changed and why.

Clarifications

A clarification is issued when the original content was not technically incorrect but was ambiguous or misleading. The clarification will be appended to the article with a clear label.

Updates

News stories evolve. When significant new information becomes available after publication, we update the article and note the update with a timestamp. Updates do not erase the original reporting but add context.

Retractions

In rare cases where an article contains multiple serious errors or was published based on false information, we will retract the article. A retraction notice will explain why the article has been removed.

2. How Corrections Are Published

All corrections are:

  • Clearly labeled at the top of the corrected article with the date of correction
  • Worded to explain what was originally published and what the correct information is
  • Retained permanently on the article — we do not silently edit articles
  • Significant corrections are noted on our social media channels

Example correction notice format: "Correction (DD Month YYYY): An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated [X]. The correct information is [Y]."

3. Reporting an Error

If you believe you have found an error in any TamilHour article, we encourage you to report it. Please include:

  • The URL or title of the article containing the error
  • A description of the error you have identified
  • The correct information, with sources if available
  • Your name and contact details (optional, but helpful for follow-up)

You can report errors by emailing us at [email protected].

4. Our Process

When an error report is received:

  • We acknowledge receipt within 24 hours (business days)
  • Our editorial team investigates and verifies the claim
  • If the error is confirmed, we publish a correction within 48 hours
  • We notify the person who reported the error of the outcome

5. Opinion and Commentary

Our corrections policy applies to factual claims in all content, including opinion pieces and analysis. However, we do not issue corrections for matters of opinion, interpretation, or editorial judgment — only for verifiable factual inaccuracies.
